Developed in the Dark

Imagine this…you’re enjoying a pleasant stroll in the park. It is sunny outside, and the rays provide the much-needed vitamin D your skin has been craving. You make a pallet on the grass and begin to pull out your well-prepared snacks from your bag. Fresh, crisp grapes, three cheese choices-pepper jack, Swiss, and muenster, and you crack open your bag of Munchies.  The birds are singing the melodies of Heaven. People are playing badminton, the track stars are pacing themselves through the trails, and laughter is echoing in the wind. Suddenly the sky begins the turn a dark gray. It starts with one drop that smacks you right on your forehead and before you know it, it’s as if Jesus himself tipped the bucket over, and everyone begins to scatter to try to get under shelter to avoid the rain.

Such is life.

All it takes is a moment to change everything.

What do you do when what was once light and seemingly perfect shifts to darkness and is surely disastrous? This answer is simple. You develop.

Development can get a bad rap because it indicates that you are undone. This pokes at our self-esteem and even our pride. Have you ever thought about why? It presents the option that I  am not ready. It sounds like immaturity. It decreases what you’ve worked so hard to achieve.

I know that when life changes you want to quickly get back to what you deemed as normal. Not many say I’m going to endure this season of darkness and enjoy it. That’s just not always realistic. We want to be super Christians and pretend like we have the emotional strength of  300 great men, but the truth is the dark can be a scary place.

Darkness feels lonely.

Light’s delay can be annoying.

The quiet is frustrating.

The process can feel disappointing.

It is not your desire to have to go through a process, but I encourage it will be worth it all.

Today’s challenge…do not give up in the middle of the process.

With love,
Marsha
